    Pabongkha

Although Pabongkha is not known to many tourists, it plays an important role that cannot be neglected in historic development of Tibet. Thonmi Sambhota once lived here, and Tibetan language was also invented here. Pabongka is located in Niangre Mountain in northern suburbs, where Songtsen Gampo and Princess Wencheng once lived back to one thousand years ago. Meanwhile, it is right here that the Tibetan language came into being. In Pabongka’s Buddha-hall, the first piece of stone sculpture of the Tibetan language om mani padme hum (six-word theory) in the Tibetan history has still been kept. Different from other temples located in the city, one can walk up to Pabongka along Niangre Road, and have a bird view of the whole Lhasa river valley.
On a tablet beside the Pabongka hall painted a Bhudda eye. It is said that this eye belongs to a Bhikkhu in the past, who has got three eyes. The other eyes of him are located in higher mountains in Pabongka. If you like, you can clamber up along the path of Wudhuri Mountain where Pabongka is located. There are still several small temples on the mountain top. Looking from a long distance, the whole Pabongka is built on a huge turtle-back shaped rock. Those who are fond of hiking and mountain climbing really should come to Pabongka and experience it.
