    Drak Yerpa

      Drak Yerpa firmly embedded itself in the cliff. It is said that the meditation temple was built by the Tibetan Princess—Mangsa Chijiang.

      In 8th century, Trisong Detsen began to promote Buddhism. He invited Padma Sambhava from India to propagandize Budda Dharma. The“108 great masters” practicing cave was built when Pama Sambhava was preaching Buddhism in Drak Yerpa temple. In 1647, the 5th Dalai Lama set up a four-storey Gelug Monastary in Drak Yerpa, and along with it are the supporting hall,Dharmapalas hall and Dalai Lama Chamber and so on. They are used to accommodate monks and worship statues such as Attisha, Brom-ston, Tsongkhapa. DragYerpa Temple established Tantra College of Gelug Sector in the 18th century.

      Drag Yerpa Temple is a Nyingma Sect temple, which is one of the four major holy meditation places in Tibet. It was first constructed inthe 7th century and has a history of 1500 years. It is one of the shrines for practicing Buddhism that the Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo has built for hisbeloved Nepal princess (his wife), and later after several times’ expansion, it has become Drag Yerpa which is embedded tightly into the cliff wall today. DragYerpa is surrounded by natural aura. All over the mountain forceful coniferaeare lush in viridity, while springs and streams flow babblingly. In the spring and summer of the year, flowers blossom while all kinds of birds sing together.Drag Yerpa hides amid cliffs, making a very beautiful sight.
